Where the World of Ideas Meets the Real World
We at the Jindal School of Journalism & Communication are writers, thinkers, and scholars--practitioners in the various facets of the science and art of communications. We believe in Mikhail Bakhtin’s dictum that every human interaction is fundamentally a dialogue, a dynamic conversation.
Hence, as communications professionals, we view the real world as a place of constant, dynamic interplay among human beings and the burning issues of the day—our task is to capture, document, and interpret those issues in forms that are accessible to a wider audience not just locally, but also globally.
Therefore, the Jindal School of Journalism & Communication (JSJC) at JGU aims to develop critical-thinking journalists and communications professionals who can communicate creatively across various global contexts, platforms and media. With an appreciation and deep respect for the practice of journalism in all its aspects—as well as being rooted in Universal Free Speech, a basic human right—we empower consumers, practitioners, and scholars to understand the media’s societal role and ethical responsibilities.
JSJC is committed to both applied and theoretical and critical principles of the discipline of journalism and communication. Students at JSJC choose their own specialisation, based on a foundation of communications and interdisciplinary courses, both from the department and other schools at the university. Based on their area of specialisation, students complete a thesis in the final year, and several internships.
